St George’s Square will become a hive of musical activities on Saturday 20 November from 1pm ahead of the Huddersfield Christmas Lights Switch on.

The family friendly day will showcase a range of community music groups performing throughout the day from up until the Christmas lights switch on at 6pm and after until 6.30pm.

There will be children’s activities including a live ice carving to create an ice ‘post box’ as well as a free workshop where children can write a letter to Santa then post their letters in the magical ice post box.

There will also be a huge inflatable Christmas Pudding in the square for fun selfie opportunities.

The live ice carve will take place between 11am and 1pm and the Letter to Santa workshop will take place between 1pm and 5pm.

 

Steven Roberts from the Music Partnership Board of Kirklees Year of Music 2023 said “This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On, which is in partnership with Year of Music 2023, is about celebrating the local music excellence we have in Kirklees.

Through the work leading up to and beyond 2023, we aim to ensure we shine a light on the creativity we have in our area and invest in our local talent.”

Cllr Will Simpson said “I’m really pleased that we are able to offer yet another free family event in the heart of Huddersfield. After the restrictions we had in place last winter, it’s great to be able to gather together again to celebrate the magic of Christmas.”

The Winter Festival by Huddersfield Live will also be taking place in their tipi In St George’s Square – so it’s sure to be a fun filled day of music and festivities.
