Temporary Contemporary, a partnership between Kirklees Council and the School of Art Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield, has organised a day of creativity at the Piazza this summer.
On Saturday 14 August between 10am – 4pm, there will be a range of free and low-cost demonstrations, exhibitions, workshops, and opportunities to find out how art and culture are adding vibrancy and purpose to the high street in Huddersfield town centre. On the day the Piazza has also teamed up with Heart to support the local businesses. Heart Angels will be at the centre, giving visitors a chance to win vouchers for the independent retailers and high street brands based there.
From costume displays of our much-loved Huddersfield Carnival to children’s art activities, artist demonstrations, and much more you are invited to come along and find out more about art on the high street! Art is for everybody of any age, and this day will shine a spotlight on some of the fantastic artists and projects that exist right on our doorstep as part of Temporary Contemporary.
Councillor Will Simpson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Greener Kirklees, said:
“There is no end to the creativity and talent in Kirklees and days like this are fantastic ways to discover what is happening on our doorstep. There are so many different events to inspire you, ranging from those aimed at younger children to some more suited to art enthusiasts.
“As we continue to recover and re-create our town centres, now is the time to remember and support local businesses. This Temporary Contemporary event at the Piazza is the perfect way to celebrate all of the creativity that surrounds us while supporting your local area.”
Temporary Contemporary’s aim is to stimulate arts and culture in vacant spaces in Huddersfield. For more information on what’s on and how to get involved, visit the Temporary Contemporary page on the Creative Kirklees Website.
Covid safety measures will be in place during the day.
