- ‘Phenomenal’ effort as manufacturer’s key workers donate to frontline healthcare workers
- Creams will help combat effects of constantly wearing PPE
- Disinfectant sprays also donated to good causes across the UK
Thornton & Ross (T&R), part of the STADA Group, has donated hundreds of thousands of its award-winning hygiene and skincare products to frontline NHS staff.
Since March 2020, T&R has donated more than 155,000 bottles of Zoflora® and 171,000 tubes of emollient cream and lotion to healthcare workers and charitable causes, including NHS charity trusts, cancer care providers and animal sanctuaries.
Bottles of Zoflora® and complimentary spray dispensers enable healthcare staff leaving work to disinfect their lockers and car door handles when they leave work to head home.
Workers at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax and Acre Mills Outpatient Centre in Lindley were the first to receive the complimentary bottles. Since then, a total of 14,000 bottles have now been distributed to Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
The company has also donated more than 171,000 tubes of Cetraben® and Zeroderma® emollient cream to help frontline workers suffering from skin issues caused by constant hand washing and wearing protective masks. The samples are in 30g and 50g sized tubes and pumps, which fit neatly into a pocket, and in use they eliminate the cross-infection risk associated with full-size containers.
Donations have been made across the UK, both to healthcare workers and to charitable causes.
These include Derby and Burton’s hospital trust charity, which received more than 1,000 units of Cetraben® cream and Zerodouble® gel to be given to frontline staff. Tim Diggle, the charity’s CEO, said the packs were a way of thanking those who had worked tirelessly for months in difficult conditions, often wearing full PPE, caring for the most seriously ill Covid-19 patients.
Universities and colleges have also benefited from donations, as have animal sanctuaries and pet care charities.
Thornton & Ross is also offering discounts on products for key workers through Blue Light Card, the UK’s largest Emergency Service and NHS discount scheme for the public sector, via its e-store shop.thorntonross.com.
T&R executive vice-president Roger Scarlett-Smith said: “As long as Covid-19 is with us and PPE is mandatory for HCPs we will continue to offer supply samples. This is all about why we can do to help at a time of national crisis.
“Our teams have been phenomenal – they have been up against it thanks to the increased demand for our products and yet sourced the materials and made time in our manufacturing and packing lines to meet this need. It’s a case of key workers helping fellow key workers.”
