Funding is available to support local businesses to help deal with the impact of the COVID-19 virus.

Grants of either £10,000 or £25,000 are now available for eligible businesses in Kirklees as part of a package of financial support announced by the Government to help mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 virus.

All businesses in Kirklees with a rateable value of less than £15,000 and who are already in receipt of Small Business Rate Relief, Rural Rate Relief or tapered relief will be eligible for a £10,000 Small Business Grant. Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000, will be eligible for a £25,000 grant under the Government’s Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant scheme.

Councillor Shabir Pandor, Leader of Kirklees Council, said, “We know that many local businesses are relying on financial support from the Government to get through this unprecedented crisis and I hope that these grants will provide some relief. Over 1800 Kirklees businesses have applied on our website for a grant in the last 24hrs and we will ensure that payment is made as soon as possible.

“In addition to this support from Government, I will also be working with our Local Enterprise Partnership to encourage banks to play their role in helping and engaging with our businesses in these challenging times.”

Eligible businesses will receive a letter from Kirklees Council this week with further details and are asked to complete an online form on the Council website to ensure they receive payment swiftly and securely in early April.
