People across Kirklees can look forward to ‘Greenhead Gathering’, a weekend of free, family events that will take place at Greenhead Park on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July.

From a mass karaoke singalong to celebrations of Caribbean and South Asian culture, there’s lots to keep the whole family entertained. Greenhead Gathering will feature events hosted by Sangam Radio, Huddersfield Carnival Committee and Kirklees Council.

On Saturday 16 July, from 2pm till 9pm, people are invited to ‘bring their sing’ and join a fantastic sing-along party with Massaoke®.  The show, which will be on the main field, will start with big family show tunes, followed later in the day by a live band playing pop anthems from across the decades. The giant video lyrics that accompany the show means everyone can sing together in karaoke style like you’ve never seen it before! There will be food and drink stalls and people are invited to bring their own chairs or blankets if needed.

Meanwhile on the lower field, from 12pm till 8pm, there will be a family fun day to celebrate and explore the rich culture of the Caribbean and the Windrush legacy. The Vibe Alive event, organised by the Huddersfield Carnival Committee will feature live music, DJs, food and craft stalls, children’s activities and more.

On Sunday 17 July, the Huddersfield Mela returns to Greenhead Park, from 12pm till 5pm, on the main field of Greenhead Park. The free family fun day, a celebration of South Asian heritage sees the start of the Sangam festival with various events taking place between 18 July and 17 August. There will be live music, food stalls and entertainment for all ages.

Councillor Will Simpson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Greener Kirklees said,

“I’m delighted that we are supporting Sangam and Huddersfield Carnival Committee with their family fun day events that are free and inclusive for all.

“Both days offer a fabulous opportunity for our communities to come together to celebrate the diverse and fascinating heritage we have in Kirklees.

“We want to bring an exciting show to local residents. Massaoke have performed for crowds of thousands at festivals like Glastonbury and Latitude and have toured the world from the US to Australia, so this is a real scoop for Kirklees.

“I hope everyone will bring their family, friends and neighbours and have a fantastic time at these free events in the picturesque surroundings of Greenhead Park.”

All three events will take place at Greenhead Park, Trinity Street, Huddersfield, HD1 4DT and are free to attend.

For the safety of all, the organisers respectfully ask that no glass bottles are brought to the above events.
