Huddersfield families have been benefiting from a ‘Pay It Forward’ fund run by Kirklees Town Halls.

Launched in September 2023, the initiative has so far enabled nearly 200 people, who would not usually have access to live performances, to enjoy a range of live entertainment.

Anyone buying tickets for shows at Kirklees Town Halls has the option to add a donation to the Pay it Forward Fund. Since the scheme started, £2,740 has been raised.

Speaking about the fund, Carmen Taylor, from mental health and wellbeing charity, Support to Recovery, said, “Tickets from the Pay It Forward Fund go to families we work with through our community anchor work, who are living with hardship or have difficulty accessing family-based activities. This fund offers families the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment they otherwise could not afford; spend quality time together; and enjoy the remarkable interiors of our town halls. It is a wonderful gift from Kirklees audience members who are enriching lives by choosing to help others.”

Richard Parry, strategic director for Adults and Health, added, “The generous donations from our audiences are enabling people in our community who may face barriers, either financial or social, to experience the joy of live entertainment and create happy memories. We are committed to making our shows accessible to everyone. In addition to our range of affordable ticket options and concessions, this new scheme allows even more people to enjoy shows at our town halls. I would like to thank all who have donated so far and the community groups we are working with to bring joy to local families.”

The spring/summer programme is now on sale and includes a wide selection of shows, from family films, and stand-up comedy, to a Bollywood celebration, quality tribute nights, orchestral concerts and even a night of world-class snooker.

Anyone who would like to donate can do so at www.kirkleestownhalls.co.uk  as part of their online ticket transaction, in person at any Kirklees Town Hall box office, over the phone on 01484 225755 or through a cash donation box in the Town Hall bars.
