Name and role: Andrew Taylor – Joint Managing Director
Company: Specialist Glass Products Limited
Sector: Bespoke Architectural Glass
How many staff do you employ?
What does your role entail?
As a founding member of Specialist Glass Products, alongside my brother Jonathan, my role covers a little bit of everything from sales, production through to accounts.
What attracted you to start/operate your business in Huddersfield?
Accessibility. Huddersfield is an ideal transport route with its proximity to the M62 corridor and within easy reach of M1 and M6, making it ideal for distributing our products.
Name some of your biggest business achievements:
- Building Specialist Glass Products from a standing start with just three people to what it is today.
- Investing £6m in a new building and machinery in the last two years. I never imagined when we started out, that that could be possible.
- Supplying glass to prestigious projects including Bloomberg, Crossrail, Wembley, The Gherkin to name but a few.
What advice would you give to someone looking to set up or relocate their business in Huddersfield?
It’s a good place to be for many reasons. Location is good in terms of connectively, and the people are reliable and straight to the point, and customers like that.
What are your hopes for Huddersfield 10 years from now (2030)?
That it becomes more business-friendly to attract and retain businesses in the area. Without doing so, and quickly, other towns, cities and out of town developments will potentially take business and employment away, unless Kirklees create more commercial sites available
On a personal level, what do you love most about the town?
It has the best of both worlds. 10 minutes in one direction I’m in the town centre, five minutes the other I’m in the countryside.
Where is your favourite place to eat/drink in Huddersfield?
Many great places but a family favourite is the New Inn at Sowood.
