ACCU RECOGNISED AS ONE OF KIRKLEES’ TOP 100 COMPANIES
Huddersfield-based precision engineering component distributor Accu has been named in the official Kirklees Top 100 Companies list for 2026/2027 – moving up from the SME category it featured in three years ago into the region’s top-tier ranking.
Accu, which manufactures and supplies precision engineering components from its headquarters in Honley, was recognised alongside the district’s leading businesses at a celebration event held at The Accu Stadium in Huddersfield on Tuesday 6th October.
The Kirklees Top 100 Companies list, now in its seventh year, is compiled annually by Huddersfield Business School following an in-depth assessment of turnover, profit, growth and headcount drawn from published company accounts, making it one of the most rigorous and impartial measures of business performance in the region. The Kirklees Top 100 Companies initiative is a partnership between the University of Huddersfield, Business Kirklees and the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC).
Accu previously featured in the inaugural Kirklees Top 100 SMEs in 2023/24, a category introduced to spotlight smaller and medium-sized businesses making a significant contribution to the local economy. Its inclusion for 2026/2027 in the Top 100 Companies category reflects the company’s continued growth since then, including its move to a purpose built 45,000 sq ft premises and increasing its employees to 149 people. During this period, Accu has continued to invest in the local community, including being the Official engineering partner for Huddersfield Town Football Club, plus signing a five-year agreement to become the club’s exclusive stadium naming rights partner.
Alastair Morris, Managing Director (UK) at Accu, said:
“To go from being on Kirklees’ Top 100 SME shortlist into the main Kirklees Top 100 in the space of a couple of years is a real reflection of how far we have come as business. The way this is judged, based on an evidence-based assessment is a genuine measure of our growth and is testament to the hard work of everyone at Accu. We’re proud to be flying the flag for Kirklees’ manufacturing and engineering industries and it is fantastic to be able to celebrate this achievement with so many impressive local businesses.”
Accu was founded in Huddersfield in 2012 by Martin Ackroyd and Antony Kitson, who recognised the inefficiencies of traditional methods of sourcing components – bulky catalogues, unclear pricing, and long lead times. Their vision was to be a screw supplier which offered a streamlined, online shopping experience where engineers could access components with a few clicks and receive them the next day.
Over the past 15 years, Accu has grown rapidly into a global distributor, catering to customers who require everything from a single component, through to millions.
Accu was awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade (2024), in recognition of exceptional scaling and global market disruption. The company’s ethos ‘Building Tomorrow’ is proudly displayed on the front of its headquarters, demonstrating its focus and dedication to growth.
