Huddersfield Training Provider Marks Milestone 50th Anniversary with Awards Event
More than 300 guests gathered in Huddersfield on Friday 17th April to celebrate a key milestone for one of the UK’s leading textile training providers.
The Textile Centre of Excellence (TCoE) hosted its 50th Anniversary Awards Ceremony at the Cedar Court Hotel, bringing together over 200 industry leaders alongside 100 apprentices and learners recognised for their achievements.
Founded in 1976, TCoE is an industry-owned, not-for-profit training provider supporting the UK’s textile and advanced manufacturing sectors. Backed by more than 100 employers, its training is shaped directly by industry needs, ensuring a workforce equipped for modern production.
Over five decades, TCoE has trained more than 6,000 apprentices and supported tens of thousands through specialist courses, developing talent across all career stages – from new entrants to senior technical and leadership roles.
Shahban Aziz, Managing Director of TCoE, said:
“Reaching 50 years is a significant milestone for everyone connected to TCoE. Being owned by industry means we remain focused on what employers truly need – both now and in the future. This event recognised the achievements of our learners, partners and the wider manufacturing community who make that possible.”
He added:
“As we look ahead, we are expanding our impact through new employer partnerships, including Bentley Motors, and developing progression routes with leading universities. Our focus on Industry 5.0 – spanning AI, digital manufacturing and sustainable innovation – will ensure businesses remain competitive while supporting the sector’s long-term future.”
Based in Outlane, Huddersfield, TCoE delivers apprenticeships in textiles, advanced upholstery and laboratory technician roles, alongside Skills Bootcamps, leadership training and industry engagement programmes.
With demand for skills and innovation continuing to grow, TCoE remains focused on developing the next generation of talent and strengthening the UK’s global competitiveness in textiles and advanced manufacturing.
