Describe what your business does
Utek Appliances is a family run business that specialises in providing our customers with the latest in domestic appliances and technology at great prices. Having built up an excellent reputation over the years for our expert knowledge, friendly staff, and quality goods at competitive prices, you can find our showroom on Brookfoot Business Park, in Brighouse.
What does your role entail?
I work as part of the marketing team to develop marketing campaigns and creative ideas to drive traffic to our website as well as the showroom! I produce content for our social media channels and the blog as well as chipping in with the everyday behind the scenes jobs in the business. Every day is different, and I am always kept very busy!
How many staff do you employ?
Our team is currently made up of 6 people all with important roles to play within the business!
What attracted you to start/operate your business in Huddersfield?
My MD Peter lives locally to the area and has always loved the convenience of being based in Huddersfield. At our current location in Brighouse, we are close to the M62 and it is easy to commute to the larger cities that surround us such as Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield! Huddersfield also offers lots of great commercial opportunities and we have been able to grow as a business without having to relocate to larger cities.
Where do you see your business in the next 5 years?
As a business we are hoping to expand as we feel like this is only just the start. We have come a long way in the 5 years that we have been trading online and now we are looking to launch a successful showroom that could lead to us opening several showrooms across various locations in Huddersfield and the surrounding areas. We are excited to see what the next 5 years has in store for Utek Appliances.
Name some of your biggest business achievements:
In the 5 years that we have been trading we have grown remarkably which is a huge achievement in itself. We have gone from starting up in a 500 square foot workshop to 2500 square feet and then on to our current location now which is 8000 square feet! Our biggest achievements are yet to come, and we have kicked 2021 off with a bang by launching our brand-new showroom as well as our B2B side of the business.
Where is your favourite place to eat/drink in Huddersfield?
I wouldn’t be able to pick just one place, but I would definitely recommend visiting Holmfirth to eat and drink. There is such a wide variety of places to choose from and whether you are going for the day with family or a night out with friends it has a place to suit every occasion. If you are celebrating a special occasion, then I would suggest checking ‘Devour’ out, the food and the setting is amazing.
On a personal level, what do you love most about the town?
I love the sense of community in Huddersfield, it is such a friendly town, and everybody looks out for each other. I think we have so much to celebrate in Huddersfield, whether it is independent businesses and shops or live music, we have lots to explore, and you are never more than 5/10 minutes away from beautiful countryside!
What would you like to see happening in Huddersfield by 2030?
I am excited to see some of the council’s plans starting to take shape in the next few years, they had big plans for King Street in the town centre to create more space for restaurants and bars and turn the nightlife in to a focal point. I would also like to see local businesses thriving after a terrible year with Covid 19, we cannot wait to open our shop front and welcome in the local customers!
