The University of Huddersfield is getting ready for a festive takeover as part of its Research in Conversation series. On Wednesday 3 December, the campus will be transformed for a day of festive fun, and everyone is welcome.
Throughout the day there will be the popular annual Christmas market with festive stalls, handmade gifts and seasonal treats. Visitors can wander round the stalls, whilst also enjoying the sounds of the University’s brass brand, staff choir and acoustic singers. There is no need to book for the market, which will take place outdoors in University Square from 11.00am to 5.00pm.
Researchers at the University are dedicated to solving the problems and answering the questions posed by industry, science and society as a whole. The Winter Festival invites visitors to discover more about this exciting research.

The Winter Festival provides a great opportunity to open our doors and share our research with the community. Professor Monty Adkins (Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation) and Professor Hyunkook Lee (Professor of Audio and Psychoacoustic Engineering) will be delivering a special talk and live performance ‘Composing sound in 3D’, sharing an insight into the fascinating world of music and technology. This will take place in Phipp’s Hall, located in the Richard Steinitz Building from 12.00noon to 1.00pm. It is a ticketed event and free tickets can be reserved here: Headline Act.
Visitors will be able to explore the Research Exhibition, which will take place in the Schwann Building Atrium from 1.00pm to 2.00pm, providing the opportunity to hear from researchers from across the University and find out more about the difference they are making to society. There is no need to book for this exhibition.
The School of Human and Health Sciences delivers diverse and impactful research and is inviting visitors to join its annual celebration at the Human and Health Sciences Postgraduate Researcher Conference. This is a ticketed event, taking place in the Oastler Building from 11.00am to 6.00pm. Free tickets can be reserved on the link at the bottom of the article.
The School of Computing and Engineering will be exploring the cutting-edge world of advanced manufacturing where industrial robots and high-tech machinery bring innovation to life with an engaging public demonstration. This ticketed event takes place in the Laura Annie Willson Building from 11.00am to 11.30am and free tickets can be reserved on the link at the bottom of the article.
The School of Arts and Humanities invites visitors to join a series of hands-on workshops from mapping Huddersfield through to personal stories to guided stitching, watercolour postcards and performance magic. This ticketed event takes place in the Barbara Hepworth Building from 10.00am to 3.30pm and free tickets can be reserved on the link at the bottom of the article.
Professor Nic Clear (Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities) and Professor Hyun Jun Park will be exploring architecture through an artist gallery tour and public lecture taking place in the Sovereign Design House from 4.00pm to 5.00pm and in the Barbara Hepworth Building from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
